Citylite: The Ultimate Interlocking Bicycle Lights

Compact, Elegant, and Efficient

The Citylite bicycle light combines a simple and elegant design with easy handling and outstanding efficiency. Designed by Lars Beck, this innovative product is revolutionizing the way cyclists stay visible and safe on the road.

Citylite is the world's most compact set of bicycle lights, inspired by Lars Beck's personal need for a better bike light during his daily commutes around the city. With its sleek and minimalist design, Citylite not only enhances the aesthetics of any bicycle but also provides a high level of functionality and safety.

One of the key features of Citylite is its interlocking design. The set separates into a front and rear light, which can be swiftly glided onto the handlebar and saddle stem without the need for tools or brackets. When separated, each light automatically switches on, and when assembled, they automatically switch off. This intelligent design minimizes the interaction required from the user, creating the ultimate functionality.

Citylite's unique properties go beyond its design. The light angle of 220° ensures that the cyclist is visible from all sides, providing an extra layer of safety. Powered by two lithium coin cells connected in parallel, Citylite doubles the battery life span compared to traditional bike lights. This means cyclists can enjoy longer rides without worrying about running out of light.

The design realization of Citylite involves the use of high-quality materials. The lighthousing, lenses, and button are all made using plastic injection molding techniques. The electronics are carefully integrated into the design, ensuring seamless functionality.

Since its inception in 1993, Citylite has undergone several iterations and improvements. The current configuration of the concept was developed in 2005, and production began in October 2011. The project has brought together talented individuals from various countries, including Denmark, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, China, Germany, and the UK.

The development of Citylite was not without its challenges. One of the primary technical challenges was achieving rotational equilibrium around the handlebar tubular element, allowing the front lamp to remain positioned horizontally without rotating. Additionally, the design team had to overcome the challenge of creating a durable snap-fit mechanism that keeps the two lights interlocked when assembled and repeatedly snaps without losing its memory over time. Through innovative solutions and meticulous engineering, these challenges were successfully overcome.

Citylite has received recognition for its exceptional design and functionality. In 2013, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.

With its compact size, elegant design, and outstanding efficiency, Citylite is setting new standards in bicycle lighting. Whether you're a daily commuter or a recreational cyclist, Citylite ensures that you stay visible and safe on the road, without compromising on style.
